Joanna Simon, Drama Vocalist from Broadly Melodic Family, Kicks the bucket at 85

A famous mezzo-soprano, she grew up close by her more youthful sisters, Carly and Lucy, both of whom became vocalist lyricists.

Mary Ascheim, a first cousin of Ms. Simon's, said the reason was thyroid malignant growth. Ms. Simon passed on in a clinic daily before Lucy Simon's demise at 82 at her home in Piermont, N.Y.

Ms. Simon was one of the most outstanding known American show vocalists to arise during the 1960s, while expressions financing was flush, crowds were full, 

and sparkling new music castles were opening, boss among them the Metropolitan Drama House at Lincoln Center in New York.

A couple of days before one presentation in New York, in 1975, she stumbled on a floor covering in her loft and broke her leg.

 As opposed to canceling the show, she mounted the stage on support.
